My chat with Bree Stallings, Charlotte’s Resident International artist

Episode 550: She’s a muralist…She’s a painter… She’s a teacher. Bree Stallings has done two residencies since we last spoke, before CoVid. One in Ireland and one in France. She talks about her travels and using art to transform her pain; such that when you acquire one of the pieces from her current exhibition, wrought in fire, you now possess a piece of her peace.

Bree Stallings, Charlotte artist: To Be Seen & Celebrated exhibition

Episode 149: You can’t deny that eyes are the window to the soul. Today I go on-site to see Bree Stallings’s solo exhibition, To be Seen & Celebrated. Bree & I chat about the project behind the exhibition, where she was commissioned to paint 100 individual eyeballs in memory of a loved one.

Bree gives a percentage of it to the residents Brookhill Village, an affordable housing community in Charlotte, for eye exams & glasses.

Blessing Box Campaign – 2018
Using 20,000 public-submitted, handwritten acts of kindness, from which 10 selected artists created projects. Over two community days with students, we wove the acts of kindness into different forms. I made two wearable dresses inspired by the idea of “what would we look like if we wore the acts of kindness and the way we treated people?”.
