Paul Gauguin, The Ham 1889

I really dig this The Ham painting by Impressionist/Post impressionist Paul Gauguin. I find it startlingly random. It seems a rather odd…and dull subject for him.

Regardless, I could just eat it off the canvas. I love the colors. I love the little glass on the side; At first glance I thought it had a smiley face. The onions, to the side, were influenced by Cezanne’s Still Life with Fruit Bow. I am a Gauguin fan, but I had not seen this.

Paul was a former Impressionist, but left Paris to focus on more “primitive” subjects in Tahiti. He can paint even “dull” subjects with aplomb.
