Paul Klee, Red Balloon 1922

Paul Klee art

I really dig this Red Balloon painting by Paul Klee. He did this in 1922. I had not seen it before and it immediately brought to mind the film short, The Red Balloon, which I remember from elementary school.

I have always loved Klee [pronounced Klay], even before I knew who he was. I remember seeing his art, thinking, Now, that is what art should be. It’s kind of a mix of childhood surrealism, cubism, and expressionism. Like Kandinsky, he was also a musician which shows through in his art.

You can see Red Balloon in person at The Guggenheim.
