I really dig this We are all Refuges: Despair painting by Alison A. Raimes. I purposely picked this one, knowing it’s controversial, even polarizing; just to show the power of art.
I totally dig the composition. I like the blue background and love the texture. I like how the woman looks like she’s cut out of a story book and pasted on a night sky. I also like that it sparks an emotional response.
Do you agree with it? Why or why not? Would you like it if it had a different title? Something like Woman after a long day? Did you like it before you read the title? What do you like about it? Does it remind you of anything. Does the title immediately draw you in or turn you away?
Why do you think it evokes certain emotions? What techniques does Alison use to achieve this? This is actually part of a series taken from photographs she took while traveling back and forth to the Calais Jungle delivering aid and providing art workshops for the refugees.
