I love this!! The first thing I thought was, this is how we spend our lives. Kind of like the Samuel Beckett’s play Waiting for Godot. Vladimir and Estragon spend the whole time waiting for a guy named Godot, who never shows.
I’m not sure that this is entirely what artist, Astrid Oudheusden had in mind when she created this, but I’d imagine it’s pretty close.
She says that she had to chose between being an actress or a painter, so I’d imagine that a reference to the play at least ran through her mind.
“Often I become obsessed with a subject…. The only way to handle the obsession is to paint. “
Astrid is in the Saatchi gallery. She lives and works just outside of Amsterdam.
