I really dig this Social Progress installation by Eco-artist, Christy Rupp. In 1986 it was installed on the streets of New York City. It is mixed media and steel.
She says it was inspired by the 1979 Nicaraguan Revolution. She wanted to make a public work about patience and struggle. She uses the snail’s ability to pull 10 times its own weight to inspire perseverance. It was sited in front of the FlatIron Building in NYC, and it pulled uptown a huge ear of corn which was also host to parasitic worms.
I love installation art because it is so powerful….and a nice change of scenery.
