
I really dig this painting because it makes me remember lazy summer days, seemingly long past when I used to hang out at the pool. Especially now that it is officially winter, I miss those days. They were days to escape reality and get lost in my thoughts.
Using references from both life and photography, Hugo’s thoughts that inspires what he paint. He can take a swimming pool or golf scene. These impressions turn into concepts and become a conversation between him and his canvas.
I like to develop dramatic detail through elaborate layers and tightly defined brushwork in order to capture a moment in time. Thus, my subjects are painted with many layers of intricate brushwork to create contemplative scenes of reality.
