
I really dig this Mount Corcoran painting by Albert Bierstadt. This was done in 1876. I absolutely love his luscious brushstrokes. They are literally like buttah.
Albert was a German-American who was a part of the Hudson River School, [which is where I’m from]. His style is characteristic of them. That luscious, romantic light is called luminism. It’s basically a landscape with a light effect that emphasizes tranquility, and often depict calm, reflective water and a soft, hazy sky. He did a lot of these types of gleaming landscapes, but I think this one is my favorite because of that piercing sky….
This one hangs in the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC.
