I really dig this News from Timbuktu painting by André Chatelain. I love the colors. I love the concept. [And I really dig her hair]. She’s a young student reading a newspaper from Timbuktu. I love it that it is almost photographic in the sense that we seemed to have caught her in an un-posed moment.

I like it that it references a place we often talk refer to, but probably have no idea where it is. [It’s in Mali, which is in Africa.]

Andre has been to Africa many times. He says he is so inspired by the people there. He says he has been painting the beauties of Africa through its people hoping to transmit a lasting emotion to the viewer by showing a different aspect of this continent.
