I really dig this By the Sea painting by American artist, Preston M. Smith. It is deceptively simple. It looks like what is called a “wash” in painting terminology. Not sure how easy or hard it is to do. All I know is that I have been terribly unsuccessful in doing them.

I totally get the feel of being at the beach or in the sea. This is acrylic on wood. The colors are spot on; it reminds me of the algae or whatever else is floating around in the sea.

Preston expressed himself in many creative avenues before deciding on painting. His work was actually showcased alongside David Lynch and at the Inaugural Purple Ball for President Obama’s Inauguration in 2009. He was commissioned to paint 12 portraits or the former president. How cool is that?
