I really dig this Woman on Fire painting by California artist, Arun Prem. It’s oil on canvas. It is inspired by Hindu mythology. It shows the goddess Durga whose “vehicle” is the tiger.

According to legend, Durga was created for the slaying of the buffalo demon Mahishasura by Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and the lesser gods, who were otherwise powerless to overcome him.

He uses color and light to depict her power. The roaring tiger complements her attitude.

Its an interesting story, for sure.

Aru says, My art is a reflection of all things going on around me. I internalize my environment and the critical elements show up in my work. These include abstracts, figurative compositions and realism.
