I really dig this Myrtle on the Mississippi painting by US artist, Carolyn Weir. It’s an impressionistic landscape painting done with acrylic on wood. She does a lot of these Mississippi River paintings at Natchez.
I had never heard of Natchez. [I’ve never been to Mississippi]. But it has an interesting history. It was a prominent city in antebellum years. It was under Spanish rule in 1779. It changed hands a few times, to the English and finally American rule.
Its location on a bluff overlooking the river is what made it a pivotal center of trade, commerce, and the interchange of ethnic Native American, European, and African cultures in the region; it held this position for two centuries after its founding.
Carolyn is in the Saatchi gallery. She lives and works in Natchez. If you dig this as much as I do, here is my link to purchase.
