I really dig this Untitled (Playing Harmonia) photograph by Carrie Mae Weems. This was done in 1990. I love the rawness and personal nature of the scene.

The man is playing the harmonica [which I had to really look, and had a little help from the title to realize], while she smokes a cigarette; enraptured with the sound.

This is a part of The Kitchen Table Series, where she stages and inserts herself in black and white pictures of various common dinner scenes.

Carrie Mae’s exhibit Witness opened at the Fraenkel Gallery on September 9th.
