I really dig this public art model by Christo and Jeanne Claude. The couple started plans to “wrap” the Arc de Triomphe in 2017. They have produced several public art installations throughout their lives. Jeanne Claude died in 2019 and Christo died in 2020, but they always wanted their work to go on after their deaths. This will be the first post-humous work of theirs.
“Our work of art is a scream of freedom,” was their motto. As such, they never accepted public funding, rather financed their art by their own art sales.
“Something that’s there for a long time, you have no rush to go see it, but each of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s projects is a once-in-a-lifetime experience you don’t want to miss because you will never see it again,” said Jonathan Henery, Jeanne-Claude’s nephew, chief officer of the CVJ Corporation, and the manager of the duo’s studio.
