I really dig this The Brunch Crowd painting by Chicago artist, Darren Thompson. This is a part of his Diners, Restaurants, and Taverns series.

I think it’s interesting and cool that the “crowd” in this picture is two people eating alone.

He does these urban realist paintings which are typically scenes from his Chicago hometown. The paintings are reminiscent of Hopper and Bellows.

Like photographs….but BETTER.

He also teaches in the Chicago public schools.
