I really dig this Salt, Light, & Grits painting by Genesis Tramaine. Genesis is an American artist who finds inspiration from her Christian faith. She actually started drawing in church, but I guarantee this is not like any “Christian art” you have ever seen.

First of all, I LOVE the title. As a Northern transplant to the South, I found grits to be a delicacy. I also like the allusion to tenacity.

Her work is raw and unfiltered and provocative. She has been compared to Basquiat and Picasso. She draws inspiration from West African history. She says she “paints with the techniques of rhythm, color, space and prayer.”

Genesis is represented by Almine Rech in NYC.
