I really dig this No Rain painting by Joan Mitchell. I was feeling especially surly today at work and these brushstrokes just SPEAK to me.

They are beautiful, yet I feel they’re a little angry. Though I find the colors to be quite peaceful. It reminds me that there can be beauty in conflict, in rage. This is a large expressionist piece in which it was quite literally action painting.

This was painted in 1976. No idea what she was feeling at the time. No Rain is said to be akin to Van Gogh’s work. I can definitely see that. Today I am claiming it kin to my emotions. That’s what I like about art!
