I really dig this Landscape 1 painting by Vietnamese artist, Kenny Nguyen. It’s a part of his In Dream series. It’s an acrylic painting, mixed with silk and yarn. This is a beautiful mixed media piece that is guaranteed to steal the spotlight of any room.
Kenny creates what he calls “deconstructed paintings”, large pieces that are comprised of hundreds of silk strips, which he cuts, paints, and puts onto canvas.
After art school, he spent his early career in fashion. Working with silk has ties for him not only to dressmaking and patterns, but also long-standing associations to the material through his culture.
He is creating his own traditions by borrowing and dismantling the old ones. He takes the idea of cutting a fabric revered for its symbol of wealth, its beauty and delicacy in clothing, and its century-long ties to trade and status in Asia.
Kenny is in the Saatchi gallery. He lives and works in Charlotte, NC. If you dig this as much as I do, here is my link to purchase.
