Marita Mendoza, White Llama painting

I really dig this White Llama painting by Peruvian artist Marita Mendoza. It is acrylic on canvas. It was painted as a tribute, of sorts, to her country and her family. It’s very folksy.

Llamas are revered in Peru. They live in the mountains of Peru, Chile, Argentina, and Bolivia. During the Inca Empire, they became one of the most important animals as they helped the Quechua Nation’s fast development. They were used to transfer food, their wool, and meat as the primary source of protein.

They are the largest domesticated South American camelid. They were used widely in the Andes as packed animals and a source of meat since the Pre-Columbian period.

But they are also adorable and funny. This picture totally reflects that! It is good for wherever and whenever you need a smile.

Marita is in the Saatchi gallery. She lives and works in Lima. If you dig this as much as I do, here is my special link to purchase.
