Martin Margiela, Vanitas

Martin Margiela art

I really dig this Vanitas installation by Belgian former fashion designer Martin Margiela. That’s putting it lightly. His work takes my breath away. I love that it is so unexpected. So imposing. I would love to live or work around these stunning designs.

This one is my current favorite, though. [I’ll have another one tomorrow]. I love that it is made from found objects. There is a darker side to me that loves that it looks like a row of heads that have just been chopped off. [I’ve got my list].

Martin Margiela left a very successful fashion career to make these designs. They are truly unlike anything you have ever seen.

Martin Margiela’s exhibition is the result of a lifetime devoted to transforming the way we see things, transcending the obvious, revealing the overlooked, and celebrating complexity,” curator Rebecca Lamarche-Vadel tells L’OFFICIEL. “Margiela has always been an artist. Though he is known for his work in fashion, he consistently broke with convention, inventing new rituals, new sensibilities, and new ways of being.

He’s got his first solo exhibition at Paris’ Lafayette Anticipations Foundation.
