I really dig this Philodendron on Pink painting by Michigan artist, Michael Pfleghaar. It’s flashe on paper. [flashe is a vinyl paint that has a beautiful matte finish]. This is one in a new series of small colorful philodendron houseplant paintings on colored backgrounds.
I adore the colors. I’ve always loved green on pink…and if you look a little closer, you’ll notice that the pot is a darker shade of pink. It’s such a unique angle too. Brilliant!
I really love the idea of painting houseplants. It lets you enjoy them forever, because you can’t kill them!
Early on Michael realized how the things we choose to surround ourselves with are a reflection of self. He chooses to paint objects instead of people. He says, I tend to compartmentalize the elements in my compositions and thus create a conversation between objects.
He says Mid-century modern design has influenced his work significantly. He likes simple, clean lines, balance, and organic materials that are characteristic of modernism.
Michael is in the Saatchi gallery. He lives in Michigan. If you dig this as much as I do, here is my special link to purchase.
