I really dig this When Ends Meet screenprint by Micklene Thomas. For one, it’s Condoleeza Rice, who I adore and two, It has rhinestones on it! This was done in 2007. She also has one with Oprah.
She was inspired by the work of Carrie Mae Weems while she was studying law in Portland, Oregon. She does a lot of identity portraits, all with a gaze that is not bashful. Now she takes inspiration from Édouard Manet and Henri Matisse as well as Weems and Kehinde Wiley. She has been featured at the Brooklyn Museum and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston.
