I really dig this Croissant painting by Natalia Sanchis Martínez. It’s oil on wood. It is actually pretty large. I think the croissant is perfect. It also kind of reminds me of a crab, the way its positioned. Does anyone else see it too?

It’s kind of funny how the piece came to be. When Natalia was in college, her classmates were making a calendar, making fun of tíos cruasán, which means guys who spend too much time at the gym. She wanted to do something different. So she made the cover a croissant.

She does a lot of figurative drawings; a lot of nudes and flowers. The croissant is a bit of an anomaly, [which is why I like it].
