I really dig this Lakeland painting by Midwestern artist, Rebecca Silus. This is oil on paper. It was inspired by an areal view from the internet. My first thought was that she was depicting Lakeland, Florida, but it could really just be any land with a lake.
I really love how the painting looks askew on the paper, almost as if she taped it there haphazardly. It’s a really cool look…and I love love LOVE how she can create an abstract painting out of a real thing. It looks almost like a collage. She’s got a great eye for design!
Rebecca’s paintings often depict abstract landscapes that are a combination of physical and virtual places. She is interested in relationships between the natural and built environments as well as places that are in transition in the way they are used and thought about. The process of making her work involves collecting imagery from a number of sources including her own drawings and photographs as well as images she finds on the Internet, in advertisements, movies, and historical archives.
Rebecca is in the Saatchi gallery. She lives and works in Minneapolis. If you dig this as much as I do, here is my special link to purchase.
