Serge Poliakoff, Composition Abstraite

I really dig this Composition Abstraite by Serge Poliakoff. He did this in 1959. I love the texture. I love the shapes. [It’s done in goache, my fave]. It reminds me a bit of Kandinsky. His designs are based on color relationships more than any sort of linear narrative of his own. But I can create all sorts of stories based on what I see.

For instance, I see two people arguing…. I see a fish and a bird; the fish is defending itself by intimidating the bird. All of this is set under the sun. Someone also suggested a “helmet-like shape,” which I’m trying in earnest to see, but don’t.

I could literally stare at this all day.
