I really dig this Going Grey sculpture from Qatari artist, Swapna Namboodiri. It is plastic on canvas. While it looks like it might be coral shells from the seashore [of which it was inspired] it is actually painted plastic bottles.
I was drawn to it because I am going gray, which I like and dislike at the same time. I also like that it is a sculpture you can hang on your wall. It is framed.
This is actually part of a more noble inspiration, a series called For the Planet where she uses upcycled products to create her pictures.
She chose to work with oceanlife theme, since they are most affected due to plastic pollution. In each of her works, the texture is individually cut and painted from discarded plastic bottles. Its her way of saving our planet. So buying one of the original works from this series, you are not only supporting art but also supporting a good cause.
Swapna is in the Saatchi gallery. She lives and works in Qatar. If you dig this as much as I do, here is my link to purchase.
