Thomas Bayrle, German Coffee 1968

I really dig this German Coffee Screenprint. by German Pop Artist, Thomas Bayrle. He did this in 1968 before computers were the norm. This is an example of a “super-form,” where the larger image is comprised of smaller images.

Influenced largely by Cold War Germany, Thomas’s pictures are commentaries on systems of control and domination in a rapidly globalizing economy. He does this with allegorical references to traffic patterns, mass production, and the generic designs of popular goods such as wrappers and wallpaper.

They are surprisingly modern and relevant, given that they were done 53 years ago.
