Ute Rathmann

Ute Rathman art for sale

I am really digging this Hommage à Van Dongen drawing by Ute Rathmann. It is actually charcoal, clay, graphite, paint, and pastel, to be exact. She does a lot of these Hommage pieces. To be honest, I didn’t know who Van Dongen was, so I looked him up. He was one of the Fauves, like Matisse. He was known for his garish portraits of women, though this one is not so much so.

He famously said,  “The essential thing is to elongate the women and especially to make them slim. After that it just remains to enlarge their jewels. They are ravished.”[

Ute is in the Saatchi gallery. She lives and works in Berlin, Germany. If you dig this as much as I do, here is my “>link to purchase.
