Emily Eastman, Woman With Roses in her Hair, 1820

Emily Eastman art

I really dig this Woman With Roses in her Hair painting by Emily Eastman. She did this between 1820 and 1840. I love the playfulness of this piece.

Emily Eastman is a 19th-century folk artist from New Hampshire. Her oeuvre was mainly childlike “glamor shots” which she created with watercolor and graphite. This one is done with pen and ink and watercolor on paper. She rarely signed her work, as was characteristic of folk artists.

Her emphasis was on the flowing hair; the accessories; the belt, the jewelry, the hair accessories.

She is in several galleries and museums. Though, not much is known about her life.
